Overview

This Arduino Mega shield is a versatile working-area board for soldering components and building fast projects based on the Arduino MEGA2560. It ships as an Arduino project kit with a built-in male header that connects directly to your Arduino MEGA2560 board, plus female headers for all MEGA2560 ports. Terminal blocks cover every port on the board as well as voltage input and output, and the shield outputs 5V DC and GND directly from the MEGA2560's power lines to power your components.

Note: this shield does not include an Arduino MEGA2560 board — pair it with an Arduino Mega 2560 Rev3.

Key Features

  • Built-in male header for easy connection to your Arduino MEGA2560 board
  • Female headers for all Arduino MEGA2560 ports
  • Terminal blocks for every port on the Arduino board
  • Terminal blocks for voltage input/output
  • Outputs 5V DC and GND from MEGA2560 lines to power external components
  • Working area with ordered output ports matching the Arduino MEGA2560 pinout
  • Breadboard-style holes for easy soldering of external components (Dimensions: 198 × 130mm)
  • All MCU ports arranged in order for quick reference

Applications

  • Rapid prototyping and testing circuits with an Arduino MEGA2560
  • Turning a breadboard prototype into a permanent, soldered build
  • Projects needing more I/O pins than the UNO version offers
  • Complex builds (robotics, multi-sensor projects) that outgrow smaller boards

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this shield include an Arduino MEGA2560 board?

No. This is a working-area shield only — you'll need a separate Arduino Mega 2560 Rev3 to use it.

Do I need to solder components directly onto this shield?

Yes, the board is designed for soldering — the holes are spaced the same as a breadboard, so you can mount and solder external components directly onto the working area.

What's the difference between this and the UNO/Nano versions of the shield?

All three work the same way, but this MEGA2560 version has the largest working area (198×130mm) to match the MEGA2560's bigger pin count and form factor.

Can I use this shield for a permanent project instead of just prototyping?

Yes. Because everything is soldered rather than plugged into a breadboard, this shield is a good way to turn a working MEGA2560 prototype into a more durable, permanent build.
