Internal Reference: SEN.COLOR.TCS3200

TCS3200 Color Sensor Daughterboard is a complete color detector, including a TAOS TCS3200 RGB sensor chip, white LEDs, and standoffs to set the optimum sensing distance. The TCS3200 can detect and measure a nearly limitless range of visible colors.

Applications include

Test strip reading, sorting by color, ambient light sensing, calibration, color matching, and more. The TCS3200 has an array of photodetectors, each with either a red, green, or blue filter or no filter (clear). The filters of each color are distributed evenly throughout the array to eliminate location bias among the colors. Internal to the device is an oscillator that produces a square-wave output whose frequency is proportional to the intensity of the chosen color.

Features:

  • Chip: TCS3200
  • Input voltage: DC 3 - 5V
  • Use bright white LED lights
  • Can be connected directly with a Microcontroller
  • Static detection of the measured object color
  • Best detection distance: 1cm

How To use TCS3200

TCS3200 Color Sensor is a sensor used to detect wavelengths of light to detect the color of the object in front. It senses the light wavelength with the help of photodiodes that are arranged in an array of 8 x 8. These photodiodes convert the light tcs3200 color sensor into current. Then using the current-to-frequency converter, readings from the photodiodes are converted into digital signal and the signal can be read by the Arduino or any other controller.

TCS3200 has four control pins, S0 ,S1, S2, And S3. Two control pins of the sensor S2 and S3 are used to select the color mode of the sensor, I.e. red, blue, and green. For example, if we want to detect red color, we can just set the two pins to low logic level as shown in the table. The sensor has two more pins, S0 and S1, which are used for scaling the output frequency that can be scaled to 100 %, 20 %, or 2%.
