LM386 Audio Amplifier Module (200 Times Gain Audio Amplifier)
Internal Reference:
KIT.AMP.LM386
LM386 Audio Amplifier Module (200× Gain, Mono, 4-12 V Operation)
Description:
Compact single-channel audio amplifier module built around the LM386 IC. Provides 200× fixed gain and a volume adjustment potentiometer. Ideal for low-power sound amplification in microcontroller projects, small radios, or DIY audio devices.
Key Features:
- Based on LM386 audio amplifier IC with fixed gain of 200×
- Integrated 10 kΩ potentiometer for volume control
- Operates from DC 4–12 V (typically 5–9 V recommended)
- Output power up to 325 mW (at 6 V into 8 Ω speaker)
- Supports speaker loads between 4 Ω to 32 Ω
- Low quiescent current (~4 mA at 6 V)
- Minimal external components required
Technical Specifications:
Feature | Specification |
---|---|
Amplifier IC | LM386 |
Fixed Gain | 200× |
Input Voltage Range | 4–12 V DC (suggest ≥5 V for best output) |
Maximum Output Power | ~325 mW into 8 Ω (at 6 V, 10% THD) |
Supported Speaker Impedance | 4–32 Ω |
Quiescent Current | ~4 mA (at 6 V) |
Volume Control | On-board 10 kΩ potentiometer |
Frequency Response (typ.) | ~300 kHz bandwidth |
PCB Size | ~41 × 14 mm |
Usage Notes:
- Use a stable 5–9 V DC power supply rated for at least 500 mA.
- Connect a 4–8 Ω speaker for optimal loudness; higher impedance gives less volume.
- Adjust volume via the potentiometer on the board.
- Avoid over-driving input signals above ~0.4 V to prevent distortion at high gain.
- Optionally, lower the fixed gain to ~20× by modifying the gain resistor or removing it between pins 1 and 8 on the LM386.
