Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the RTC backup battery last?

The included CR1220 battery keeps the real-time clock running accurately for up to 2 years, even when the shield isn't powered by the Arduino.

What size SD card can I use with this data logger shield?

It supports SD/SDHC cards up to 32GB, formatted as FAT16 or FAT32.

Is this shield compatible with Arduino Mega?

Yes, it works with Mega R3 and later. Earlier Mega/ADK R2 boards or earlier are not compatible.

Do I need to write my own code to log data with timestamps?

No — the shield includes sample Arduino libraries and example sketches to get timestamped SD card logging working out of the box.
