This sensor module is capable of measuring pitch, roll, yaw, and magnetic heading, making it suitable for robotics, and other navigation systems.

With its compact design, the RPI-1031 integrates advanced sensing technology to provide accurate angular measurements in real-time. It typically features a combination of accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers to ensure reliable performance across different environments. The module is easy to interface with microcontrollers and can be utilized in both hobbyist projects and professional applications, offering versatility and high performance for attitude determination and navigation tasks.

Product Overview

The RPI‑1031 is a compact 4‑direction attitude sensor, ideal for detecting tilt/pitch/roll/yaw angles with discrete directional outputs. Designed for Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontrollers, it provides robust orientation feedback using optical detection principles

Key Features & Technology
  • Optical tilt detection: Features one LED emitter and two phototransistors, with a central cylindrical shade to cast shadows. This mechanism enables it to detect tilt in four distinct orientations
  • 4‑state digital output (4DOF): Gives binary signals (LOW/HIGH) on two output pins, corresponding to four tilt states—useful for simple directional detection .
  • Simple interface: Provides GND, VCC (3.3–5 V), and two digital outputs - easy to integrate into digital IO of microcontrollers.
Electrical Specifications
Parameter
Specification
Supply Voltage3.3 V–5 V DC
Outputs2× digital output pins (tilt states)
LED TypeInfrared LED emitter
Phototransistors2 units for light detection
Power ConsumptionMinimal (LED + phototransistors) approx. few mA
Mechanical Details
  • Board dimensions: ~20 × 11.5 mm
  • Module layout: Standard through-hole 4-pin connector plus mounting hole
  • Weight: ~2–3 g (tiny and lightweight)
How It Works
  1. LED emits infrared light centrally.
  2. A cylindrical shade rotates with the module or object.
  3. Depending on orientation, the shade blocks light from reaching one or both phototransistors.
  4. Outputs change between LOW/HIGH to represent four possible angular positions.
Typical Use Cases
  • Device leveling and tilt alarms
  • Orientation detection in simple robotics
  • User interface gestures (e.g., angle-based input)
  • Motion-triggered lighting or directional alert systems
