5V 1A Type C-USB 18650 Lithium Battery Charging Board Charger Module + Protection Dual Functions TP4056

  • This is a miniature battery charger based on the TP4056 integrated circuit. It is ideal for adding an embedded battery charger to your new project.
  • Charge Li-Ion batteries from onboard Type C USB connector from USB or external +5V source.
  • With C Type USB onboard connector, you can directly connect to a computer USB port for battery charging. If USB is not available you can use an external source voltage at IN+/IN- pads great for DIY projects

  • Input voltage: 4.5V~5.5V
  • Fully charged voltage: 4.2V
  • Charging current: 1A adjustable (Set originally to 1A)
  • Working temperature:  -10°C ~ 85°C
  • Charging method: Linear charging 1%
  • Charging precision: 1.5%
  • Charging indicator: Red light charging, Green light fully charged
  • Interface: Type C USB
  • Size: 25 x 19 x 10mm.

Safety Notes:

  1. The ampere meter can only be connected to the 5v input end of the module.
  2. The charging current should be 37% of the battery capacity. If you charge to the battery of 1000mAh, a current of 400mA is enough.
  3. The connection wire should not be too thick.
  4. Make sure the connection points are well-soldered.
  5. If the input voltage is too high, like 5.2v, the current will be less than 1000mA, which is normal. It is a protection function, that auto-subtracts the charging current to avoid burn damage to the chip.
  6. NO Reversal polarity.

TP4056 USB Type C Charger Module for 18650 and Single-Cell Li-Ion Batteries

This TP4056 USB Type C charger module is built around the TP4056 charging chip and is designed for one Li-ion cell at a time. The input range is 4.5V to 5.5V, which matches a normal USB supply, and the full-charge voltage is 4.2V. As a Type C battery charger module, it can be powered from a modern phone charger or a power bank cable, and the IN+ and IN- pads are available when you want to feed it from a 5V source inside a project.

TP4056 Lithium Battery Charger Module: How the Charge Cycle Works

A TP4056 lithium battery charger module follows the standard Li-ion charging method: a gentle trickle charge when the cell is deeply discharged, a constant-current stage, and then a constant-voltage stage at 4.2V where the current gradually falls. According to the chip's published details, charging ends when the current drops to about one tenth of the set value, and a new cycle starts if the cell voltage falls to about 4.0V while it is still connected. On this board, a red LED shows that charging is in progress and a green LED shows that the battery is full. The chip also reduces the charge current automatically if it gets too hot.

18650 Charger Module With Protection: Using It Safely

As an 18650 charger module with protection, this board adds a protection function to the charging circuit, which makes it a better fit for small portable builds than a bare charger. Even so, a few habits keep your setup safe:

  • Choose a charge current that suits your cell's capacity and follow the cell maker's recommended rate.
  • Connect the battery with the correct polarity, because reverse polarity is not allowed.
  • Make sure the solder joints are solid and use wires suited to the current.
  • Use a supply within the module's input range, since a higher input voltage can lower the charging current.

Choosing the Right Charger for Your Battery Pack

The TP4056 board charges one cell (1S). If your project uses two or three cells in series, look at the 2S 8.4V 2A 18650 lithium battery charger module or the 3S 12.6V 2A 18650 lithium battery charger module. For packs that need their own protection board, browse our lithium battery BMS protection boards.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to charge an 18650 with TP4056?

Connect the battery to the module's battery terminals with the correct polarity, then power the module from a USB Type-C cable or a 5V source on the IN+ and IN- pads. The red LED lights while charging and the green LED lights when the battery is full.

What is the charging current of TP4056?

This TP4056 1A charging board is set to 1A by default. The TP4056 chip supports charging currents up to 1A.

Can TP4056 charge more than one cell?

No. It is made for a single Li-ion cell with a 4.2V full-charge voltage. For two or three cells in series, use a 2S or 3S charger module.

What do the red and green LEDs mean on TP4056?

Red means the battery is charging, and green means charging is complete.

What input voltage does the module need?

It needs a 4.5V to 5.5V supply, which matches USB power.

What is the full-charge voltage?

The full-charge voltage is 4.2V, with a charge accuracy of about 1.5%.

What size is the module?

It measures about 25 x 19 x 10 mm.
